The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Riau University held an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Curriculum Workshop on July 29-30, 2024 at the Royal Asnof Hotel, Pekanbaru. This activity is a strategic step in the framework of compiling and improving the curriculum of all study programs in the FMIPA environment that is oriented towards improving learning assessment mechanisms and learning planning. This workshop was attended by faculty leaders, heads and secretaries of departments, study program coordinators, and lecturers from all study programs in FMIPA.
Focus on Curriculum Transformation
In his remarks, the Dean of FMIPA, Riau University emphasized the importance of curriculum transformation towards the OBE approach as a form of adaptation to global challenges and the demands of the world of work. "The OBE-based curriculum emphasizes what graduates can do, not just what they learn in class," he said.
The initial stage of the workshop focused on introducing the concept and implementation strategy of the OBE curriculum, including mapping graduate learning outcomes (CPL), curriculum design, and learning assessment strategies. At the end of the workshop section, there was a session on preparing the Semester Learning Plan (RPS) based on OBE and a presentation of the curriculum draft from each study program.
Results and Follow-up Plans
From the results of the workshop, all study programs in FMIPA succeeded in preparing an initial draft of the OBE curriculum which will be refined in the near future. This activity also produced several important recommendations, including:
• Scheduling the final revision of the curriculum in February 2025 carried out by the LPPMP of Riau University.
• Making RPS for each course through the SATU UNRI website.
• Socialization of the curriculum to students and external stakeholders within a year.
This activity ended with a closing by the Deputy Dean I of FMIPA and is expected to be the beginning of the comprehensive implementation of the OBE curriculum at FMIPA, Riau University.
